Pair Hospitalized After Attempted Murder/Suicide

"GRANITE CITY, IL — A domestic dispute turned violent overnight and now police in Granite City are looking for answers. Police say it appears a man shot his wife multiple times and then turned the gun on himself.

"It happened on the 2500 block of Jerden Avenue in Granite City just before 1 a.m. Police were still on the scene around 5 a.m. investigating. Authorities say the 50 year old woman called 911 after being shot in a vehicle outside her home. She told police her husband did it. She was taken to Gateway Regional Medical Center.

"Police then found out the suspect, a 62 year old man went into a home on Jerden. Police set up outside the home with their guns drawn. A short time later, a resident of the home who was not the shooter, came out and told police the suspect had shot himself.

"Officers rushed in and found the man with a gunshot wound to the head. Both the woman and her husband were transferred to a St. Louis hospital. Investigators say she is in stable condition and the suspect is in critical condition.

"Their names have not yet been released."
