Police Investigate Deaths Of Separated Couple
"HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, MI — Detectives in Ottawa County say a man separated from his wife came over to a relatives house where she was staying this evening and shot her in the chest before turning the gun on himself.
"The murder-suicide took place at 10502 Adams Street in Holland Township shortly before 7 p.m.
"According to Ottawa County Lt. Mark Bennett, a 34-year-old man from Allegan County shot his 32-year-old wife in the chest with a rifle that police found in his possession when they arrived.
"The couple had been separated for about four months and she had taken their child to live with her mother, who lives in the home where the incident took place. Their 5-year-old child was in the home when the incident happened.
"Bennett said it was not unusual for the man to come by the house. The couple had lived in Allegan County before the separation and police there are headed to that home, where the man lived.
"It's not clear yet whether there were any personal protection orders involved in the separation, Bennett said.
"The woman was taken to Holland Hospital where she died about 9 p.m. The man died instantly from his wounds on the scene."
