Double Murder/Suicide Ends After Police Chase
"CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — A Central Islip man killed himself in Farmingville Friday morning after he killed two others earlier in the day.
"Genis Walker, 26, took his own life after crashing into the side of Brothers Police store on Horseblock Road.
"Police initially responded to a call at 123 Atlantic St. in Central Islip at 2:30 a.m., where they discovered Jessica Hernandez, 22, suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
"Residents of the home told police they saw Walker, also of that address, stab Hernandez and flee in one of the residents' vehicle.
"Police were called to 19 Waterworks Road in Patchogue at approximately 8:20 a.m. for a man that had been shot outside. When officers arrived they found Arthur Ward, 26, of that address, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Ward was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead not long after.
"A notification of the vehicle Walker was driving was broadcast to local law enforcement. Suffolk County Sheriff Deputy Christopher Barry observed the vehicle northbound on North Ocean Avenue near the Long Island Expressway and was joined by Suffolk County Police units.
"Stop sticks were deployed which caused the vehicle's tires to deflate and the vehicle crashed into the Brothers Police store.
"When police approached the vehicle they found Walker suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Medical Center at 9:22 a.m."
