SWAT Robot Finds Body Of Killer

"LEWISVILLE, TX — Seven hours after Lewisville police responded to a `person shot` call at 817 High Meadow Court, officers heard a single gunshot come from within the home, where the suspect, 48-year-old Daniel Peshak of Lewisville, had barricaded himself.

"According to a statement released by the police, officers arrived at the scene around 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 and spoke with a woman who had witnessed a male victim being shot. The alleged shooter allowed her to leave the home, but he barricaded himself inside after she left and notified police.

"Officers closed some roadways in the area and evacuated some neighbors by the home. They attempted to contact the suspect by phone and over a PA system, and ultimately they were able to speak with him for the next couple of hours by phone.

"`During that time, he stated on several occassions that he was going to come out and turn himself in to police, but he never did so,` Lt. Scott Haynes wrote in a press release.

"Around 2:30 a.m. the next morning, officers heard the fatal shot and saw a muzzle flash inside the home. They deployed a reconnaissance robot to check on the suspect, and he seemed to be unresponsive. After SWAT officers entered the home, they verified that he was dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot.

"Officers found the body of 24-year-old David Amonett, several handguns and one rifle after searching the home. Amonett was the same man the woman identified as being shot in the residence before she left and the step-son of Peshak. According to the release, both men lived together at the residence. The weapons have been transferred to the Tarrant County Medical Examiners Office for analysis.

"No motive has been identified, and the incident is still under investigation."
