Shooter Hospitalized After Botched Multiple Murder/Suicide

"WHITAKERS, NC — A woman died in an apparent murder-attempted suicide in the town of Whitakers Saturday morning, Nash County Sheriff Dick Jenkins said.

"Police said James Radford shot and killed his wife, Teresa Radford, at 116 Southwest Railroad Street, Jenkins said. Radford then turned the gun on himself but survived. He was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, where he was listed in critical condition Saturday evening.

"Another woman, Martha Worrell, was shot in the altercation and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said Radford also tried to shoot Shelton Whittaker, but missed.

"All four people were at Worrell's home when the shooting happened.

"Police said they planned to charge Radford with murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill."
