1 Dead, 1 Injured In Parking Lot Murder/Suicide


"ANCHORAGE, AK — Anchorage police are investigating a double shooting that occurred around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Police say one man is dead and the other in critical condition at a local hospital.

"Police say the shooting happened in the GCI parking lot at Northern Lights and C Street.

"According to the police report, two men and a young woman were in a Ford Fusion after partying at a downtown bar when an argument began. The trio pulled into the parking lot, where they exited the vehicle and continued to argue.

"According to police, the argument escalated and 22-year-old James Mitchell pulled out a gun and threatened the driver, 22-year-old Stephanie Kirchner, and then shot the other man, 25-year-old Aaron McClain in the chest before shooting himself in the head.

"Mitchell was pronounced dead at the hospital. McClain was taken to the hospital in critical condition and went immediately into surgery, police said.

"`Officers arrived on scene found two males down, one shot in the chest one shot in the head. And early, early investigation information is that it was an attempted homicide, attempted suicide.` said Officer Glen Daily."
