Pair Survives Botched Murder/Suicide

"LISBON, LA — A man shot his wife and then himself in an apparent botched murder-suicide attempt, authorities said.

"Both are expected to recover and charges are pending against the husband.

"Billy Singleton, 39, shot his 48-year-old wife, Sheronda, in the chest Tuesday afternoon (October 13) and then shot himself in the chest, Claiborne Sheriff Ken Bailey said.

"The shootings happened near the community of Lisbon, Bailey said. The Sheriff's Department got a 911 call from Mrs. Singleton's cell phone about 4 p.m. and tracked the call to that location, Bailey said.

"Bailey said the couple, who are from Union Parish, had been driving down Louisiana Highway 152 when they got into an argument. They pulled onto a side road, where the shootings happened.

"Each was airlifted to LSU Hospital in Shreveport, where they were on separate floors. Sheriff's detectives went to the hospital Wednesday to get information from the couple about what led to the shooting, Bailey said.

"The gun believed used in the shooting was recovered, Bailey said."
