The Dead Wore Pajamas

"WILLOWICK, OH — A 79-year-old man shot his 79-year-old wife in the head, then turned the gun on himself, police said.

"The bodies of Dorothy and Robert Rickel were discovered Monday when one of their four grown children visited their Ronald Drive home.

"The daughter regularly checked on her parents, Lt. Paul Pallante said. She got to their house about 11:45 a.m. and found a note from her father on the kitchen table.

"She read it, walked outside and called police.

"`The note was apologetic, but didn't say anything specific,` Pallante said.

"The bodies, clad in pajamas, were in the bedroom.

"The family said they weren't aware of any critical health concerns; Robert had beaten cancer and Dorothy was using a walker after having a minor stroke, Pallante said.

"Detectives continue to investigate. The Cuyahoga County Coroner's Office is performing autopsies."
