SWAT Finds Dead Couple After Stand-Off

"ERIE, PA — A husband and wife found dead at their house at 1838 Fairmount Parkway early this morning were killed in a murder-suicide, the Erie County Coroner's Office has ruled.

"The two, whose names have not yet been released, were killed by shotgun blasts after a domestic dispute, Deputy Coroner Korac Timon said. He said the investigation showed the woman was shot first, at close range, and the man's wounds were self-inflicted.

"Timon said the Coroner's Office plans to release the names of the couple today, after the office is certain the couple's relatives have been notified.

"The fatalities are believed to have occurred sometime around 4 a.m., when multiple Erie police units responded to the couple's house. The domestic incident escalated into a barricaded gunman, and the SWAT team was called in, police said.

"Two fatalities were reported, police said.

"Neighbors said a man and woman lived in the house at 1838 Fairmount Parkway with the woman's teen daughter. The girl was not believed to have been injured.

"Full details on what happened there weren't immediately available, although a neighbor said the SWAT team broke into the house and two bodies were removed.

"Police remained at the scene throughout the morning. Yellow crime scene tape was stretched in front of 1838 Fairmount Parkway. The door stood open and a police cruiser was parked across the driveway.

"Neighbors, who didn't want to give their names, said the family had lived there about six years and this wasn't the first time police had been called to the residence."
