Two Hospitalized After Botched Murder/Suicide

"HOLLYWOOD, FL — A double shooting in Hollywood on Saturday morning was a murder-suicide attempt, according to police.

"Sgt. Manny Marino of the Hollywood Police Department said a man in his 40s went to the sixth-floor apartment of a woman he was dating on North Ocean Drive.

"When she refused to open the door the man fired a shot through the door and the mother of the woman suffered a leg wound, Marino said.

"`Then the man turned the gun on himself,` Marino said.

"Both were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.

"Jan Simmons lives across the street from the Hollywood Towers.

"`We heard sirens,` she said, `and more squad cars pulled up and everyone hunkered down with their rifles out and their shields and started running towards the building.`"
