Elderly Couple Found Dead In Nice, Clean Home
"ELMWOOD PARK, IL — Elmwood Park police still are investigating the shooting of an 81-year-old woman by her 82-year-old husband Tuesday morning in their home on the 7900 block of Westwood Drive.
"The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the fatalities, but as of 4:45 p.m. was not releasing the names pending family notification.
"`What we know so far is that this involved an elderly couple who lived in a nice home, a clean home, with all sorts of medication sitting on the kitchen table,` said Police Chief Thomas Braglia. "The woman was found in a chair in the living room. Her husband at her feet.
"`We believe her husband shot her, then called 911 to say the back door was open, and then shot himself.`
"The man was dead on the scene, while the woman died at 11:46 a.m. at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, according to the medical examiner's office.
"Braglia said the department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding what he described as a murder-suicide, which includes determining the physical health of the couple and if that may have played a role in the actions taken by the husband."
